Look what Santa brought: another Hedgehog software release!

Look what Santa brought: another Hedgehog software release!

Just in time for the holidays, I’m pleased to announce that Santa and his elves are delivering Hedgehog A2 “Just Cause” available for download at https://githedgehog.com.  The Hedgehog elves worked especially hard on this release to get it on the sleigh for fun through the holidays.

Complete with new documentation at https://docs.githedgehog.com, Just Cause makes it easier than ever to learn how to run a cloud network.  For those who really want to tinker, we also have some good documentation on how everything works under the hood.

We developed this release in partnership with Broadcom, Dell, Edgecore so that Hedgehog customers have a choice of network topologies and devices for enterprise cloud workloads.  You can choose between a collapsed core topology for small, simple edge compute environments, or you can choose a clos topology with a spine-leaf fabric for larger cloud networks.  We have fully tested and validated Hedgehog Open Network Fabric powered by SONiC to work with these devices.

Spine

Leaf

This device selection now gives Hedgehog customers the opportunity to deploy 25GbE cloud fabrics for general purpose compute, or 100GbE fabrics with more network capacity for demanding workloads.  We also added the Edgecore EPS203 as a power-over-ethernet (POE) switch to connect sensors and devices for AI inference in edge computing environments.

In our A1 Infamous release we described how you can download the Hedgehog software appliance with automated installation, boot and configuration of your cloud network.  We improved zero touch provisioning even further with chain booting from the front panel ports of your leaf switches.  This means that you don’t need a separate management network.

Infamous also introduced the Hedgehog Virtual Private Cloud service with an API to create and manage VPCs, including internal VPC peering.  Just Cause now adds external peering to the fabric.
